The Heart of Cedar Lake Awards brought together more than 300 community members on March 18 for a powerful morning of connection, celebration, and purpose, raising more than $130,000 in support of Cedar Lake’s mission. Emceed by Jennifer Baileys, a four-time Emmy Award–winning reporter from WLKY, the event highlighted the extraordinary individuals and organizations whose compassion and commitment are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those supported by Cedar Lake.
One of the most moving moments of the morning was the presentation of the Jericho Friend Award, recognizing individuals and companies whose generosity and partnership continue to strengthen the Cedar Lake community. In addition, Steve Collins was honored with the Theresa Stiebling Award for his unwavering dedication, compassion, and love for the individuals served by Cedar Lake, an embodiment of the organization’s core values.
The audience was also inspired by Mark, an individual supported at Cedar Lake, who was recognized as a true superstar for his “Mark Minute” social media segments. Through his interviews with staff, Mark brings a unique voice that reflects the spirit and vibrancy of the Cedar Lake community.
“Cedar Lake is here because of the vision of a few Lutheran families who once asked the question so many parents still ask today: ‘What will happen to my child when I’m gone?’ Cedar Lake exists to help answer that question with hope. We are not just programs or buildings. We are peace of mind for families and possibilities for the people we love. That’s why supporting this work means so much to me,” said Bruce Beickman, Cedar Lake Inc and Support Services Board of Directors Chairman.
The success of this year’s Heart of Cedar Lake Awards is a testament to the power of community and shared purpose. The funds raised will directly support Cedar Lake’s mission of providing abundant possibilities and unconditional love to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
