Cedar Lake is proud to share the completion of a recent bathroom renovation made possible through a generous grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. This funding allowed Cedar Lake to renovate the primary bathroom in one of our residential homes, ensuring it better meets the evolving needs of the individuals who live there.

As the individuals we support continue to age, accessibility and safety become increasingly important. With the help of this grant, Cedar Lake was able to replace an outdated tub-shower combination with a fully wheelchair-accessible shower. This upgrade was a necessary and proactive step to accommodate changing mobility needs while promoting comfort, dignity, and independence.

The renovated bathroom allows individuals living in the home to age in place rather than face the disruption of transferring to a different facility. Remaining in a familiar environment is essential for maintaining emotional well-being, routines, and a sense of belonging. By creating a more accessible space, Cedar Lake ensures that individuals can continue to care for themselves as independently as possible for as long as possible.

In addition to supporting independence, the renovation significantly improves safety for both residents and staff. The accessible shower reduces the risk of slips, falls, and injuries during daily hygiene routines, creating a safer environment for everyone. These improvements not only meet current needs but also prepare the home to support future residents who may require similar accommodations.

Over time, renovations like this help Cedar Lake build safer, more inclusive homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have yet to join our community. Each improvement strengthens our commitment to providing high-quality, person-centered care in a supportive residential setting.

“The Honorable Order was proud to partner with Cedar Lake this past year, providing a grant to renovate residential bathrooms and enhance safety for those they serve,” said Colonel Eric Patterson. “Cedar Lake’s commitment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is inspiring, and we are honored to provide support over the years contributing to projects including vehicles, sensory gardens, and facility improvements.”
