Choosing the right supports for a family member with an intellectual or developmental disability is one of the most important decisions a family can make. It’s also one that often comes with a lot of questions. What services are available? How do waivers and Medicaid work? What does the waitlist look like? Where do we even begin?
At Cedar Lake, you don’t have to start with a stack of forms or a maze of phone menus. You can start with Tori Singleton, our Family Navigator.
A Friendly First Point of Contact
Tori is the first point of contact for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and guardians who are exploring Cedar Lake services. Wherever you are in your journey, whether you’re gathering information or getting ready to apply, her goal is to make sure you feel informed, supported, and connected.
How Tori Can Help Your Family
- Learn about our services. Cedar Lake offers a wide range of supports, including intermediate care facilities, group homes, staff residences, independent apartments, the Family Home Provider program, community-based services, and the Enrichment Center day program. Tori can help you understand which options may fit your loved one’s needs and goals.
- Schedule a tour. Seeing a place in person matters. Tori can arrange tours of our locations so you can get a feel for the people and the environment.
- Ask about waivers and Medicaid. Funding questions are among the most common, and often the most confusing. Tori can answer your questions and point you in the right direction.
- Start the waitlist process. Because of high demand for our residential programs and housing, we encourage families to plan early. Tori can help you get started and will stay in touch with families as they wait, so you’re never left wondering where things stand.
- Get connected to other resources. If Cedar Lake isn’t the right fit for every need, Tori can help connect you with other helpful resources in the community.
More Than a Phone Number
Tori’s role goes beyond answering questions. She also leads community outreach, educating schools, hospitals, and community organizations about Cedar Lake and the people we support, so that more families know where to turn when they need help.
This reflects who we are. Cedar Lake was founded in 1970 by Louisville-area parents of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and families have been at the heart of our mission ever since. Our vision is a community where people with and without disabilities enrich each other’s lives through mutual respect and unconditional love.
