USI, a leader in risk management and insurance solutions, has long been committed to giving back to the communities it serves. With over 500,000 clients across the country and a deep-rooted presence in local neighborhoods, USI’s commitment to social responsibility is reflected in their USI Gives Back program. This annual initiative encourages associates to invest their time, talent, and treasure in various service projects within their local communities.
In August 2024, a group of 20 dedicated USI volunteers from the Louisville office visited Cedar Lake Enrichment Center to participate in a day of meaningful interaction and creativity. This year’s project involved crafting bracelets and pendants for the Cedar Lake Olympics, a series of events that brought joy and friendly competition to the individuals supported by Cedar Lake.
Todd Lanham, a partner in USI’s Louisville office and a long-time supporter of Cedar Lake, has been involved with the organization for around five years. He shares the importance of these volunteer experiences: “We don’t always take the time to slow down and take perspective of what is going on around us and who needs us. Being able to enjoy the chance to be around other people you aren’t typically around is fulfilling. Cedar Lake does such a good job of engaging us and allowing us to make an impact on others.”
The partnership between USI and Cedar Lake has grown over the years, with volunteers returning annually to reconnect with familiar faces. Lanham noted that many individuals at Cedar Lake recognize the volunteers, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that fosters lasting relationships.
In previous years, USI volunteers have hosted dance parties, made paper airplanes, and played games with the individuals at Cedar Lake. This year’s larger group, one of the biggest yet, was a testament to the growing enthusiasm within the USI team for this volunteer opportunity. After the day’s activities, the volunteers continued to bond over lunch, sharing stories and reflecting on their experiences.
Lanham emphasized the rewarding nature of volunteering at Cedar Lake, stating, “We walk away with as many smiles as they do.” The sense of fulfillment and the joy of giving back to the community keeps USI volunteers coming back year after year, with the hope of expanding their efforts and continuing to make a positive impact.
The USI Gives Back Mission
As part of their broader mission, USI’s nationwide campaign through USI Gives Back includes various community service events such as food drives, pet shelter support, and projects at the Ronald McDonald House. The goal of 100% participation across the company underscores USI’s dedication to building a better future through community engagement.
Through its ongoing partnership with Cedar Lake, USI exemplifies how corporations can play a crucial role in supporting and uplifting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their efforts not only benefit those they serve but also enrich the lives of the volunteers who give their time and talents to make a difference.
